New Website

New Website Launched!

It’s been awhile but I finally redid my website. I was using the Salient theme for WordPress for the last few years and have really liked it. But as WordPress continues to evolve with their new block editor, I was still using page builders and their classic editor and growing increasingly frustrated.

I’ve flirted with redesigning my site several times over the years but have never pulled the trigger on anything. I’ve wanted something minimal and clean… something that makes it easy to update and enjoyable to use.

I really wanted to try using Ghost or a flat-file static site solution like Jekyll but those are a bit too technical and over my head. Ghost has a hosted solution that enables you to charge for premium content and develop your own Substack or Patreon. It’s awesome for creators like me, but I’ve been out of the content business for awhile and it’s not worth the subscription fee.

Besides, I also run an eCommerce shop and I’d have to also switch to Shopify if I wanted to use on of those services. So I am staying with WordPress and WooCommerce for now. It’s served me well over the past decade or more.

What theme did I go with?

I went with a super fast block-based theme called Blocksy. And I had to ditch my WP Bakery Page Builder and remake some of my pages using the block editor. But the workload hasn’t been so bad. Just about everything I could do with the page builder I can do with WordPress blocks with minimal additional plugins.

So right now I’ve got a clean new theme that’s fast and getting good scores on Google Page Speed insights. Not perfect by any means, but better.

I’ve also added a few new items to my portfolio. Some branding and illustration work for Deskjobs, Six String Sacrament, and Jet Black Roses. More updates to come.

I’m still tweaking things on my new site and you might see things that look broken. If you notice anything let me know.

  1. Looks good man. Let your words and create images and character for the literate crowd. If you do a bigger project I’d love to contribute. I’m a bit rusty though.
