Film Recap #2

More blurbs from my film recaps on the Harmony Korine forum. Note that some of these are one line and pretty pointless, but I thought I'd post it here anyway. Dig!: I really haven't listened to BJM (or the Dandy Warhols) but I thought the movie DIG was pretty good. I liked the film because it showed some insight into…

Film Recap Series #1

Gosh it's hard to update a blog. I still design and watch films, but I just haven't gotten around to post about it. One of my biggest roadblocks is after I watch a movie, it's usually late at night and the thought of having to format a Wordpress post just makes me tired. I just want to quickly get out…

Frownland

Wow, amazing in so many ways. If you would happen to see it, you'd be convinced this film was shot in the late 70's, early 80's. The imagery, colors, and camerawork is astonishing and perfectly suited to my tastes. However, Frownland was released in 2007 and I just now was able to see it. It took forever to get to…

JF on Capitalism: A Love Story

I was lucky enough to be part of the opening night festivities for the new Capitol Theatre in Cleveland. The newly renovated theater was a hotspot in Cleveland in the 20's but it's been empty for nearly 3 decades and it has finally been brought back to life. (more…)

JF on Sugar

I was super pumped to see Sugar, the new film from Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck - the directors of Half Nelson, which I really loved. It had only a single showing at the Cleveland Film Festival a few months back and I wasn't able to see it. It finally came out on DVD and I watched it last night.…

JF on Tyson

Last week, I watched the new documentary Tyson by James Toback. It felt more like a 60 minutes interview, than a documentary. But that's ok because the subject is extremely interesting. Mike does a great job of opening up and coming across as a a nieve little kid in a grown up body. I admit, the testosterone in me (more…)

JF on The Class

I was finally able to see the french film The Class (officially Entre les murs) by Laurent Cantent last weekend. It won the Palm d'Or at Cannes in 2008. From the Wikipedia, it's based on the semi-autobiographical novel by François BĂ©gaudeau. It was about his experiences as a literature teacher in an inner city middle school in Paris. (more…)

My Opinion on Film

This is the first non-portfolio post on this site. Why? What the heck? Well, I've always felt I should keep content flowing on this site and write about the things that interested me. I was afraid it'd get in the way of the portfolio, but honestly, who cares? I've been asked by a few people, and most recently @godmachine to…
